Apricot Recipes for July 4th!
Independence Day! What a festive summer holiday to celebrate with family and friends in honor of our great nation.
The 4th of July is a particularly special day at B & R Farms as it marks our yearly anniversary. On July 4th, 1929 Jim's grandparents, Frank and Mary, purchased the very plot of land that is B & R Farms. This year marks 90 wonderful years in business for our family. In celebration, we’re hosting San Benito County’s first-ever apricot U-Pick on July 13th from 9am-3pm. It’s your rare opportunity to pick fresh Blenheim apricots right from the tree!
But in the meantime, backyard July 4th celebrations are to be had. We’ve pulled together a few of our favorite dishes that incorporate Blenheim apricots in the most patriotic way! :)

Appetizer: Flag Cheese Platter
Show off your creative touch with this super simple cheese platter that will only take you a few minutes to construct. Line alternating rows of cheese wedges and Royal Medallion Blenheim Apricots. In the upper corner layer salami and top with star-pressed cheese. Voilà! You’ve got yourself the most delicious flag at the party!
Side-dish: Blueberry, Jicama, Apricot Salsa (or salad)
This red (or orange!), white, and blue festive salsa brings together a delicious combination of flavors and textures. Refreshing jicama pairs perfectly with sweet Slab Apricots and blueberries. To make you'll need:
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup B & R Farms Slab Dried Apricots
1 cup diced jicama
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
2 tablespoons finely chopped jalapeno pepper (stemmed and seeded)
Juice of 1 large lime and Salt to taste
In a medium bowl, combine blueberries, dried apricots, jicama, cilantro, red onion, jalapeno, and lime juice. Stir until well combined. Season with salt, to taste.
You can dice ingredients fine for salsa or chunky for salad.
Main Course: Apricot-Topped Hot Dogs
Is it really the 4th of July without some good old American hot dogs?! Our favorite way to top them is with a big pour of Apricot Red Pepper Topping.
Dessert: Flag Apricot Cake
If your sweet tooth is calling, skip the savory cheese platter (or do both!) and instead opt for a patriotic dessert. Make your favorite cake recipe and then top it off with stars and stripes using white icing, blueberries, and Royal Medallion Blenheim Apricots.
Dessert: Apricot Rice Krispies
Who doesn’t love a sweet and gooey Rice Krispie treat? Make your favorite recipe extra special by mixing in Diced Apricots and mini chocolate chips.
Mari is feeling ready for the 4th! Are you? Wishing you a Happy 4th of July from B & R Farms!
